The Battle of Simpson Cemetery
Some have argued that the trial of Thomas Carson was the moment civilization died. Citing the near carnival nature of the crowd even as they put him to death. Others point too the ascension of Jerome Henderson to command of the Guardians and the 2 year Hell of witch hunts and murder. I disagree with all of these assessments.
In my eyes, civilization died in a little Communal garden in Seneca.
I remember the Summer of 23' as being a time of some level of comfort. The upstate had finally suppressed the largest and strongest of the Bands of Wild Men and there was a real sense of peace and quite for the first time in years. The survivors s

The rocking chair creaked as an old man rocked back and forth in the gentle Georgia spring breeze. In his hand was a dirty glass of homemade lemonade, condensation slowly collecting and dripping down the sides as the ice melted. His khaki pants were stained and his leather shoes were old and worn with time. He sat quietly listening to the other two men talk as they stood at the base of the steps leading up to his front porch.

and why you ask, do we partake in this
mindless slaughter of the day?
"to preserve the union" they say, or worse "to free the slaves"

You have to be quiet. Sound is the enemy when the air is still and even the Earth herself seems to watch in anxious anticipation of the climax that has painfully yet to begin. The wind whispers a soft melody over the snow as the forest sits in dark judgement of the world around it, glaring eyes of bark and dirt. Movement is a sin in this world of nature. Evolution is cruel to those who break their solemn vows of abstinent hibernation through the winter of life. Light is a death wish, dark forms hunker down in the ruts and roots and gaps between stones and curse to themselves in spite and anger as brief flashes of brilliance burst like th
